Step 1: Place blocks on a flat surface and shape into a square base—any size you’d like—mine is approx. 5”x5”.

| Step 2: Once you are happy with the arrangement, use the glue gun to glue the edges together.

Step 3: Begin building up the sides. Don’t worry if the walls do not go from edge to edge of the base—in my example, the box is set back slightly from the edge of the base and measures approx. 4½” x 4½”. I scattered the word “Tzedakah” throughout the walls using ABC blocks. Use your imagination—write your family’s name, your children’s names, the name of the charity you are contributing to, or simple place random letters for color.

Step 5: Set the box aside and shape the lid. The lid should be the same dimensions of the base (again, in my example it is 5”x5”). Shape the lid so there is a hole in the middle (this allows you to drop coins in the hole without removing the lid).

Step 7: Take an arched block and glue it to the lid to serve as a handle. You can also construct a handle out of Tinker Toys.

Variations: Use Lincoln Logs or any other wooden building toy. If your children are into cars, why not glue a car to the lid for a handle. Or glue flat wooden animals to the sides. Or decorate with beads or small plastic doll shoes. Whatever sparks your children’s imagination.
